Heath Ledger was the perfect role for the joker. for katfink, the original batman with jack nicholson was way too comedic, he wasn’t evil at all. arkham asylum, i haven’t seen that yet, but i think that heath’s joker was the best one yet. he was menacing, he was evil and he had a wierd funny side to him. The joker is one of the best villians ever created and that is what heath brought to the character, the best villian ever.
Some say that HL is given too much credit for his performance in BDK, simply because it was his last performance. I think he fits the role perfectly and does it in a way few people could ever do. with so much evil charisma. Definately one of my favourite movie villains. The Nicholson Joker was great in its time, but nowhere close to HL Joker in this viewers opinion.
To be perfectly honest I don’t think Ledger’s portrayal of Joker was the best. For me, it was too homicidal and not enough comedy, whereas Nicholson’s went the other way – not menacing enough. I think the Arkham Asylum Joker is the closest to the original character.
penguing, may i please ask, from what source you got that information? cause i love to see a 3th movie, but what i have heared about the riddler , johney depp etc. other people say that they are just rumors
heath added the “cmon hit me” part as his tribute to jack nicholson in the original batman ( go watch it again youll see what i mean) also coleman reese, aka mr reese, mysteries, all but assures the riddler in the next film and maybe catwoman as lucious fox said about the new batsuit, it’ll do well against cats
From the way Heath Ledger played “The Joker” in this movie, he should have been the lead star. He was spectacular. If he was alive, I assure you there would have been an Encore !! R.I.P Heath.
Actors love completely crazy characters to play. Completely crazy characters regularly win Oscars, and are relatively easy to play compared to more normal characters. All you have to do is act as strangely as you can. Johnny Depp would probably be a pretty good Joker, but there are a whole host of actors out there, including Gary Oldman, who would have done it even better. Still, Heath Ledger nailed it, and deserves his posthumous Oscar(as did the movie deserve about eight extra Oscars).

I didnt know it was Heath Ledger playing the Joker until he died. I looked through his filmography and was astonished to see that his character was the joker in the upcoming film The Dark Knight. I thought there was a mistake or something but guess i was wrong. That is when u can tell he has done a great job.. so great that u can’t tell it was him. AND its not an animation film.. props to Heath

Also it has been confirmed that The Riddler WILL be in the next film (which will probably be next summer) and Johnny Depp will be playing him.
